| AN ATHEIST
CONFRONTS GOD! |
A college professor, an avowed Atheist,
was teaching his class. He shocked his students when he said
he was going to prove there was no God. Looking upward, he said:
“God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off
this platform. I'll give you 15 minutes!” The lecture room
fell silent. You could have heard a pin fall. Ten minutes went
by. Again he taunted God, saying, “God. I'm still waiting.”
His count-down got down to the last couple of minutes when a
Marine - just released from active duty and newly registered
in the class - walked up to the professor, hit him full force
in the face, and sent him tumbling from his lofty platform.
The professor was out cold! The students were shocked! The young
Marine returned to his seat in the front row. The class waited.
Eventually, the professor came to, shaken. He looked at the
young Marine and asked: “What's the matter with you? Why
did you do that?” The young Marine said “God was busy.
He sent me.”
Well, God is not busy in the sense of being absent, but He is
busy working in the hearts of human beings. And He has sent
YOU to represent Him, not necessarily with a punch in the
face, but with a strong witness...
"...You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors
in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public
with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you
light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a
bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that
I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine!
Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up
to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous
Father in heaven." (Jesus, in Matthew 5: 14-16, The
Message.)
